Tom tied his pen to his pencil as shown in the diagram below to form a toy. The length of the pencil is 3/5 the length of the pen. What is the length of the toy?



Solution


2 units ----- 7 cm
1 unit ----- 7 cm divided by 2 = 3.5 cm
Length of toy ----- pen + 3 cm
5 units + 3 cm
(5 x 3.5 cm) + 3 cm = 20.5 cm

Answer: The length of the toy is 20.5 cm
