The cost of a chicken pie is thrice the cost of a muffin. Mrs Seetho paid a total of $40 for 20 muffins and 10 chicken pies. Find the cost of a chicken pie.
Solution
Chicken pie ----- 3 units
Muffin ----- 1 unit
20 muffins + 10 chicken pies ----- $40
(20 x 1 unit) + (10 x 3 units) ----- $40
20 units + 30 units ----- $40
50 units ----- $40
1 unit ----- $40 divided by 50 = $0.80
(Chicken pie) 3 units ----- 3 x $0.80 = $2.40
Answer: The cost of a chicken pie is $2.40
